Reaching
for Excellence, Rooted in Community
Last fall, when I was asked
to run for superintendent of public instruction, I didn’t give it much
thought at first. As more people throughout the state talked with me, I
began to give it real consideration.
On April 17th, I formally
announced my candidacy.
Those who know me know that
once I decide to do something, I make a serious commitment. The race for
superintendent of public instruction will be a spirited contest. I am
fully committed to working as hard as possible to win this important post.
My broad background and
experience have prepared me to be the state educational leader for our
school children and public school system. In the course of my extensive
experiences, I have developed a deep understanding of issues and problems
facing our public schools.
Through the years, I have
learned that bringing good people together-- educators, parents, and
community members--can result in good, creative, and workable solutions to
issues. That’s a practice I would continue.
Our Montana constitution
states: “It is the goal of the people to establish a system of education
which will develop the full potential of each person.” This, too, is my
goal.
Right now, artists who will
create tomorrow’s masterpieces are in our elementary classrooms.
Astronauts who will walk on Mars are in our middle schools. Future state
and national leaders who will solve our energy, water and global warming
issues are in our high schools.
I want to be part of this exciting future, working with Montana educators and citizens to assist in the development of today’s children in becoming our artists, scientists, teachers, and leaders of tomorrow.
I welcome your support and
ask you to join me in helping to make our children’s future possibilities
a reality by electing me as your next superintendent of public
instruction.

Claudette Morton's
understanding of how children learn and the challenges facing
educators in the diverse classrooms across Montana is only
overshadowed by her seemingly endless energy and boundless enthusiasm
for young people. Claudette is recognized nationally for her concern
about the future of public education and for her work to ensure that
all students achieve educational success. How fortunate we are to have
some one of her caliber willing to lead Montana schools as
Superintendent of Public Instruction.
